FGM update



Here is a short video explaining the Egyptian governments new approach to stopping the practice of genital mutilation. This is not a religious custom it is used to preserve the girls virtue making her a much better marriage prospect. There have been over 100 million women and girls that have been mutilated, and many thousands who die from the procedure.

So good to see the topic getting some media coverage. Well done to those brave women prepared to take it to the people in the stage play! This is such an abberation. What I noted was sad in this report was that it is still held in high regard by the general public. Praise is due to the religious leader prepared to support the abolition of this practice. Perhaps with increasing numbers of better educated women growing in these societies who want a different outcome for their daughters things may change.
